Orie L. Dudley Jr. is Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer
at Northern Trust Corporation, Chicago. He is responsible for setting
investment policy and overseeing Northern's portfolio management activities.
Dudley received a B.A. degree from Harvard University. Prior to joining
Northern Trust in his current position in October, 2000, he was chief
executive officer and acting chief investment officer for Scottish Widows
Investment Partnership, Ltd. in Edinburgh, Scotland. He joined Scottish
Widows Investment Management in 1998 as chief executive officer and oversaw
the organization's merger with Hill Samuel Asset Management to form Scottish
Widows Investment Partnership in early 2000.
Before joining Scottish Widows Investment Management, Dudley spent four
years with the Barclays Group, first as president and chief executive
officer of Barclays McConnell Ltd. (Canada) and more recently in Europe
as managing director of Barclays Asset Management, where he was responsible
for the group's $7 billion European business. In addition, Dudley held
several senior management positions with The Putnam Companies, including
director of research, managing a team of 18 equity analysts and serving
as a member of the executive and investment policy committees. His most
recent positions with Putnam were as chief of institutional marketing,
responsible for Putnam's $9.5 billion institutional business, and as chief
of European development.
Earlier in his career, he served as an investment analyst at New England
Merchants National Bank, and then as a consultant for Loomis, Sayles &
Company. He subsequently served as president and chief investment officer
of the Endowment Management and Research group's publicly traded Omega
Fund before joining Putnam.
