Frequently Asked Questions

What companies do you share information with?

We share information with companies that provide services to us, such as the firm that mails our literature. These companies are not allowed to use this information to sell their products to you directly, and they are not allowed to sell this information to other companies. We do this so we can better service your account and provide you with the quality you expect from Northern.

We also provide information to companies that have joint marketing agreements with Northern Funds, including Northern Trust and its affiliates. Also, we are allowed to disclose information to credit bureaus and similar organizations, and to others as permitted by law. These disclosures might be in connection with a subpoena, other legal matter, audit or examination.

What information do you obtain through my use of your Web site?

The primary information we collect online is the information you provide to us when you fill out forms, applications, or send an e-mail to us through our web sites. We also collect information indirectly by using cookies. A "cookie" is a small text file that is sent to your browser to allow us to identify communications from you. How can I reduce direct marketing from other companies?

If you want to reduce the amount of direct marketing you receive from companies other than Northern Funds or our affiliates, you can write to the following agencies (be sure to include complete information on each name, address, and telephone number you'd like excluded from these lists):

For materials received by mail:

Mail Preference Services

For phone solicitations:

Telemarketing Do Not Call Registry

888/382-1222 (TTY 866/290-4236)

The National Do Not Call Registry gives you the choice to stop receiving most telemarketing calls at home. Registration is free and your registration will be effective for five years. Once your telephone number has been listed for a month, most telemarketing companies should stop calling you. You can register by calling toll-free 888/382-1222 (TTY 866/290-4236) or online at www.donotcall.gov. Charities, political organizations, and telephone surveyors may continue to call you. In addition, companies you do business with may also continue to call you.

Also, you can have your name taken off pre-approved credit solicitations by writing to the following credit reporting bureaus or calling 888\5OPTOUT (888\567-8688). Be sure to include your name, address, Social Security number, and telephone number.
